The Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE) Releases
3rd Edition of “Certification: The ICE Handbook”
including “Innovations in Certification and Assessment”

November 22, 2019 - The Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE) released the third edition of Certification: The ICE Handbook at the 2019 ICE Exchange in San Diego, CA. The ICE Handbook includes chapters on certification law, governance and management of certification programs, examination development, test administration and scoring, recertification, and the future of professional certification. As with the previous editions, the ICE Handbook is a step-by-step, practical guide to the implementation of effective professional certification examinations. The handbook was written by recognized experts in the field of professional certification examinations and was edited by James Henderson, Ph.D.
Mountain Measurement’s Founder and Principal Consultant, Brian Bontempo, Ph.D. and Kirk Becker, Ph.D., Senior Researcher at Pearson Vue, provided one of the chapters that is new to this edition. The chapter, entitled Innovations in Certification and Assessment, provides information which is likely to be rather new for the target audience, certification professionals. The authors cover the lifecycle of innovation, a process for developing certification innovations, the evolution of innovation for a certification program, and an overview of many current and upcoming innovations in certification.
